Welcome to guitar teacher John DeFoore's Website! Thank you for visiting. First of all, let me tell you a little about myself.
I live and teach in an antique hotel, the Beckham, in Mineola, Texas. I guess I pretty much live and breathe music. I began teaching in 1964 during my time in the Air Force. While stationed in London, I was learning so many interesting things on the guitar, I just wanted to share this wealth. London was ripe with innovative and exceptional musicians and songwriters, so I spent all my free time learning. I stayed in London after the service, and continued to learn and teach until my return home in 1973. I attended the University of Maryland on the military base in London, England, and McMurry University in Abilene, Texas, where I studied music theory.
I played guitar and sang in the band Jealousy Motel for nine years (see the Merchandise page for Jealousy Motel CDs). In my entire career I have played in about 25 bands. My years of teaching and performing experience have helped me develop highly effective teaching methods that can take your own playing to new levels.
